Many of us this month will have the pleasure of attending
school graduations, from Siddur Parties to Law School
Commencements. At all of these wonderful occasions, the
experiences that we as parents go through are the same; i.e.,
you enter the room, sit down and then that magical moment
occurs. Your eyes lock on your child even though there may be
a hundred other students in the room. And you may be rest
assured that your child knows that your loving eyes are
resting upon him or her.

My brother’s Rebbe, Rabbi Reisman of New York, uses this
analogy to explain that we should experience this feeling
every single moment of every single day. We are that child and
Hashem is our parent. We must always understand that Hashem’s
loving eyes are resting upon each one of us and that we as
individuals matter.
We might not matter to people who live across the country or
on the other side of the world, but everything that we do and
say matters to Hashem. Hashem notices when we come to daven 5
minutes early instead of arriving 20 minutes late. Hashem
notices when we pick up litter that someone else has randomly
discarded and place it in the trash or recycling bin.
May this graduation season inspire each and every one of us to
feel Hashem’s warm eyes being lit up by our successes.
Shabbat Shalom!
Rabbi Elie
